Burlap Starfish Art

So, when you need some new wall art for your home, just make it yourself! Total cost for this beauty was $0....because I had everything already on hand:-) I started out with this old picture frame {found in an old storage unit} for FREE! lol.

Here it is, it was a nice dark cherry frame, but since I am trying to light up our apartment I wanted something a little bit more cheery in color...so...what to do...you PAINT IT! Hmmm what color?
Yup you guessed it!

Blue Ocean Breeze...yet again! lol. Note colors that I always have on hand are silver, white and several shades of blue....LOVE it!

First coat. No need for primer in this project!

Once that dried I went ahead and used a nice dark glaze to bring out the details. With two rags {one damp cloth and one dry} to wipe any off to get the desired effect i wanted.

After it dried, I busted out the sand paper....

Printed out a picture of my favorite starfish {yes, I did not even attempt to stick a REAL one in there when this one did the job}! lol , and pasted it on a fine piece of burlap....and Voila; my shabby sheik "cottagee" ocean like wall art! ;-)

Now my 1/2 bath is a little happier! Now doesn't that make you want to look around your house and see what you can make out of what you already have?

Ruffle Wreath

Ok, so I saw this idea on another blog {My Life on Cedar Street}, and I simply HAD to make one of my own! It really was SO easy, and cheap. I used some scrap fabric that I had leftover and a wooden wreath from the Dollar Store. Oh my goodness, this was absolutely so fun and easy to make. It was just what my little apartment needed. I sewed the ruffles with my sewing machine {good old ruffle stich}. Than followed all her instructions, only I glue gunned the whole thing together. It took me no time at all to make, and I just beam with happiness every time I look at it on my way out the door.

When I was about 8 years old, my art class in Denmark made silhouettes of ourselves. I have wanted to make some more ever since but never got around to it. Well I finally (20 years later) did it! I LOVE IT!!! I read that Nie Nie makes new ones of her family every year, so I thought I would start that too. {now to make a new one with my baby boy on it} What a great tradition. It is fun to see how we progress and change:-) And this is a fun way to be crafty...AND add inexpensive art to my house. I cant wait to make some more!

Silhouette Plates {Vintage Chairs}

Finally, after having these $0.75 plates sitting on a shelf gathering dust I have finished this project! I was inspired by my new blogger buddies at Chikkaboom for this one. I didnt have the tools they did for making theirs, so I just went online and found a few pictures of vintage chairs. I LOVE old chairs, and I have to often hold back from buying more....I just dont have the space to keep them!lol. So when I saw these, it gives me my "chair" fix without the space problem;-) 

I found these plates at a thrift shop for $0.75 each. Printed some images I found online, cut them out, painted them black and pasted them on the plates with Modgepodge glue. And....DONE!  I found some wall hangers at Walmart for cheap and now I can enjoy my chairs...I LOOOOOVVVVE THEM! :-) And best of all it only cost me like $5 bucks to make!
